called in a broken pipe claim. adjuster asked for the date of loss and I said I just noticed the damaged kitchen floor but didn't know when the pipe broke.

he said he had to know the exact date of loss and further said if I didn't know he would put down a month and a half ago. adjuster came out and inspected the damaged floor. next thing I got a letter from shelter with a copy of an endorsement stating we have 14 days to turn in a claim from the date of loss or there is no coverage.

claim denied. went to the Missouri attorney general and they wrote back shelter is correct, the endorsement excludes coverage for claims over 14 days.

That is pretty subjective, was there very dark or rotted wood? Moll can start growing three days, but a lot of mold is another indicator of a long term leak.

Also, what caused the leak, get the plumber if you had one, to write down their opinion on when the leak could have started.

Because of the fear of cancellation and high deductibles many people wait more than 14 days before filing a claim.
